Thanks for stopping in. Pour yourself a cup o' jo, take a load off your feet, and check out what's here. You are looking at my ramblings about issues of faith, life and culture—they are my own and are not necessarily shared by those with whom I work, live or otherwise engage.

My journey has led my family and me across the country where I have been introduced to a lot of people and a lot of different ways of doing things. One passion, though, runs through all these experiences: building beloved and sustainable community. "Sustainable" community is kind of a strange notion, as communities (people) change constantly, and things are always in motion. So, the latest chapter of my life has led me to the notion of "impermanence"—not an idea that comes naturally in a culture that likes to build monuments to our greatness for future generations to view and admire. But, I'm trying to practice my awareness of impermanence—the idea that nothing is permanent, nothing is forever, and things are always in flux.

Peace and blessings,

Comment on Landon Whitsitt’s new book, Open Source Church

I must first state that I am thankful for Landon Whitsitt’s contribution to the ongoing conversation around the questions: what has the church become and what might it be becoming? This is especially poignant given his position as vice-moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). So much is happening to the ecclesial landscape that is difficult to even wrap my head around the varied directions within the PC(USA), […]

Holy Week - Life is Crazy Sometimes

It’s Holy Week. Life is crazy sometimes. That’s all I have this week. Disappointing, I know. But, it’s where I am. 😉

Peace and blessings upon you, your family, your friends, and your community,

Eric (not even a cool signature graphic? Sheesh!)

Christianity Is About the Reconfiguration of the Human Heart

I recently read on the Emergent Village’s MINemergent Daily Communiqué that, “Christianity is about the reconfiguration of the human heart, the redirection of human desire.â€? The author, Kevin Corcoran, goes on to write that “Christianity crucially involves beliefs, but it’s not about the beliefs. Because Christian faith is about lives well lived in community with our created nature, the Christian faith inducts Christians into concrete practices, rituals, and sacraments that had for over […]

New Blog - Faith & Coffee

I have redesigned a new blog, transferred all the posts from my old blog, and am starting today with my first post. I’m pretty excited about it, and pretty proud of the new design. I have little experience designing websites, but I think the design turned out pretty sweet (thanks to WordPress’ self-publishing/hosting application).

I hope and plan to write posts every week, typically on Monday afternoons. I love writing, but have not been able […]
